Five Things You May Not Know About Six Flags Amusement Parks

When it comes to amusement park companies, Six Flags Inc. is one of the most famous in the world. It is ranked as the fourth biggest amusement park company in the world and has theme parks all across North America and also owns properties worldwide. The company began in 1961 when it was founded by Arlington, Texas’ own Angus Wynne. It gradually grew and expanded and the company changed hands a number of times through the 1980s and 1990s. Millions of visitors frequent these theme parks each and every year, but here are five things you may not know about Six Flags amusement parks:

1. Six Flags, Inc. actually owns 40% of Dick Clark Productions which includes the rights to American Bandstand, Dick Clark’s New Years Rockin’ Eve, and more.

2. Six Flags New Orleans was severely damaged in 2005 by Hurricane Katrina which devastated a great deal of the local area there.

3. The Six Flags company started in and is still headquartered in Texas. The name Six Flags refers to the six flags that have flown over the state of Texas at various times in its history. These would be the flags of Spain, France, Mexico, The Republic of Texas, The Confederate States of America, and of course the United States of America.

4. The largest theme park in all of Latin America is Six Flags Mexico. Long before it became a Six Flags theme park it was known as Reino Aventura and was home to the famous orca whale Keiko who starred in the movie Free Willy.

5. The only three parks in the current Six Flags amusement company that have used the Six Flags brand since the day they opened are Six Flags Over Texas, Six Flags Over Georgia, and Six Flags St. Louis. All of the other Six Flags properties were started by other individuals or companies and later purchased by Six Flags and absorbed by them and rebranded.

Six Flags theme parks have remained popular with adults and children alike for many decades. Each theme park is different, which means visitors can frequent many different locations and be assured they will not just be seeing the same thing over and over. Six Flags theme parks have a large amount of attractions that are geared towards both children and adults alike. The company has proven over the years that they know exactly what they are doing when it comes to entertaining the masses. Six Flags amusement parks are sure to entertain and excite children and adults for many years to come.
