The cost of the average college textbook has been rising at an alarming rate recently. But did you know that, like certain prescription drugs, certain textbooks can often be purchased offshore from booksellers at lower prices than in the U.S. Textbooks priced for the American market can sometimes be found at non-US book dealers with less mark-up than at U.S. booksellers.
Keep in mind these factors when shopping:
1) Not every book is available at overseas sellers.
2) Editions may vary, books may be softcover instead of hardcover, etc.
3) Don’t forget to convert currencies.
4) Shipping is higher. (Try to buy more than one book to save on shipping.)
Even considering all these factors, textbooks can often be had at a 25% or more discount from overseas sellers.
Where to start? Do a search for U.K and Canadian booksellers. Amazon UK has a nice selection.
Another Tip:
Don’t forget to look for used copies of the books you need. eBay is a great place to start.
